On Rua Dom Pedro V, one of Porto's great arteries connecting the vibrant Boavista quarter to the tranquil river's edge, an old manor sat quietly among granite walls and maple canopies.
The restoration was guided by a single principle: listen to what already exists. The man-made granite walls and natural vegetation that define this terraced quarter became our foundation, not obstacles. Using natural stone as the dominant material, the architectural intervention was kept minimal — floating concrete planes connect the antique walls to create new terraced levels that rise toward the river view while preserving the privacy and grandeur of the original estate.
Continuous surfaces of terrazzo — that ancient form of recycled marble, striking in both style and craftsmanship — cross thresholds of floor-to-ceiling glass into bright living rooms. Natural wood and Portuguese marble are woven throughout, with locally crafted countertops, cabinetry, and porcelain bathrooms that honour the country's finest materials and artisans.

Rua da Pena encircles the Dom Pedro Quinto terraces, where the houses and palaces of Porto's 18th-century noble history reveal themselves through hidden vegetable gardens, fountains, and fields. The Romantic Trails — Caminhos do Romântico — are pedestrian routes tracing the city's charm, remnants of village life in the heart of Porto. A two-minute stroll down the slope lies the Douro River, with its inexhaustible views and daily rhythm of sailing, cycling, and running from sea-breeze sunrise to breathtaking sunset.
Within the district of Massarelos, established museums coexist alongside Porto's most relevant contemporary art galleries. The Jardim Botânico is a five-minute walk, the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal another five. Gallery Row on Rua de Miguel Bombarda, the Museu Soares dos Reis, and the Mercado do Bom Sucesso are all within easy reach — as is the future Galiza metro station, just 100 metres away.
